Softopper Compatible Bed Racks Guide

Softopper-Compatible Rack FAQ

Yes. HMOR racks can work on a truck with a Softopper installed when the truck, bed length, rail setup, and rack choice all line up correctly. The important distinction is that the rack can coexist with the Softopper on the truck, but it does not allow the Softopper to retract under the rack.

No. The Softopper needs to rise roughly 4 to 6 inches before it can collapse down, and there is not enough room under the rack for that movement.

HMOR mounts to OEM bedside cargo rails where applicable or uses a no-mod steel pinch-clamp style mount on other applications.

Install order is Rack first, Softopper second.

No. HMOR racks are designed around attaching directly to the OEM rail interface, and accommodating those situations where the rail does not exist.

Correct. Bed Bars, Rock-It Bars, and Rock-It Racks are designed around standard bolt-on installation on normal vehicle applications. Custom retrofit situations are certainly possible, and we can help with that.

Yes. Rock-It Bars and Rock-It Racks have top-surface mounting slots so rooftop tents and accessories can bolt directly to the rack. Bed Bars can also be used for rooftop tent setups with HMOR mounting hardware or RTT manufacturer hardware.

Bed Bars are 500 lb for a set of 2 and 750 lb for a set of 3 static and dynamic capacity.

The full Rock-It Rack currently carries an industry leading 1500 lb static and dynamic capacity.

Static means the vehicle is not moving. Dynamic means the vehicle is in smooth motion. Rough off-road impacts can exceed smooth-motion dynamic conditions, and OEM vehicle limits still matter. HMOR utilizes an evenly distributed load design.

Do not exceed vehicle OEM load specs.

Usually not. The total load, the condition of the bed sides, and how aggressively the truck will be used matter. If you are stacking rack weight, rooftop tent weight, awning weight, and off-road use together, it is smart to think about the truck as a full system, not just the rack by itself. 2005-2003 Toyota Tacoma's benefit greatly from HMOR Bed Stiffeners.

Select the Softopper height option on the product page for the right fit. The Softopper versions of our rack are designed to keep it as low and narrow as possible, to ensure contact with the canvas material is non-existent.

Yes! The goal is not just to mount gear. The goal is to keep the truck functional for cargo, travel, and daily use without ending up with a weak or awkward rack system.

Yes. HMOR systems are built as modular systems, not just crossbars in the air. Bed Bars have accessory mounting options, and full Rock-It Rack systems add even more integrated mounting capability. There is a lot of features built directly into the design of our racks - value right out of the box. We also have an ever-expanding line of accessories for all rack systems.

Yes. That is one of the biggest reasons Rock-It Bars exist. They give you a stronger formed-steel starting point now and the option to upgrade into a full Rock-It Rack later.

No. HMOR racks are designed to sit on top without trimming bed caps or plastic trim.

Because there is a real difference between a thin import rack built around the lowest price and a thoughtfully engineered system.

Fitment, mounting architecture, strength, cleaner installation, upgrade path, and actual truck usability all matter. HMOR is built for people who want a stronger modular rack system with fewer compromises, not the cheapest thing that technically bolts on.

HMOR is where you spend your money wisely. Too many of our customers come from a setup that failed on them at the most inconvenient and dangerous time. The others see the value the value in "Cry-Once, Buy-Once".
